It's common knowledge by now that Butte does not celebrate holidays in the singular sense.  We stretch it out over a couple of days.  Sometimes even through the weekend.  Folks across Montana have known this since, well, St. Uhro's Day.  It is not a surprise, then, that Butte'e Independence Day celebration officially begins on the 3rd of July with barbecues, music and, of course, the state's biggest fireworks show thanks to our friends at Town Pump.  Are you going to a private party on the hill?  Maybe more of a public setting.  Here is a guide to the ultimate places to catch this year's fireworks show.

Just off the 400 block of North Main, you'll find the Original Mineyard, home of the Montana Folk Festival, the An Ri Ra Festival, the Butte-Silver Bow County Fair and countless other events throughout the year, particularly during the summer months.  The Original Mineyard also has a large open area and it's location on the hill makes it a prime spot to view the fireworks this year.  This year, there will be a lot happening at the Original as country star Morgan Evans will be performing prior to the fireworks show and you can count on plenty of refreshments and food as well.

Chester Steele has been the meeting point for families in the Mining City for decades.  Chester Steele is big and there's also a playground so the young ones will be able to run around while you lay out a blanket for your family.  Just get there early because Chester Steele fills up fast.

AS CLOSE TO THE BIG "M" AS YOU CAN

For many, the closer to the ignition point, the better and the Big Butte area is hopping on the 3rd.  Almost every yard in the area has activity from family parties to full-blown block parties.  If you have a friend in that area who is hosting a party, that is the place you will want to be.

Wherever you go, remember that the crowds uptown, particularly on Montana and Excelsior Streets are extremely busy and there are kids running around and on bikes all over the uptown.  Please go slowly and be patient and PLEASE do not drink and drive if you're going to be uptown.
