Over 2500 men died in the mines of Butte over the years, 43 at the Orphan Girl alone. It is the Orphan Girl site on which the World Museum of Mining now sits, just outside of "Hell Roarin' Gulch" which is said to be haunted itself. But we're not talking about ground-dwelling spirits. The World Museum of Mining is giving you the chance to go into the mine itself and see what lies beneath.

One thing Butte has never been short on is ghost stories, especially as we get closer and closer to Halloween. Some of Butte's ghost stories are imaginary. Some of the others? Well, we'll leave that up to you. You've heard of the Centerville Ghost, haven't you? How about the spirits that are said to roam the Dumas Brothel, the Courthouse or even the original Butte Archives building? Here's your chance to do some exploring with a Butte Historian with a knack for ghost hunting who will get you up-close and personal on a tour you will never forget.

As fall settles in and the colder days become more common, there are several ways to stay warm and enjoy the season at Butte's Belmont Senior Center on East Mercury Street. Here is a look at some of the things that they have coming up this month.

The Butte Chamber of Commerce along with St. Patrick's and Immaculate Conception Parishes, our brothers and sisters in radio just down the street at Butte Broadcasting and our friends at the Montana Standard are behind a program that aims to honor local heroes who a lot of the time go without recognition.

Today is National Cheeseburger Day and here in the heart of Beef Country, we take our burgers pretty seriously. While Butte may not have some of the big, trendy chains like Five Guys or In-N-Out, we do have many of the giants that you'll find in most cities, but it's at several local establishments that you'll find some of the best burgers in town. Here are a few of our favorites.

First of all, Happy Labor Day and a salute to the hardworking people of Butte and Southwest Montana. Butte has always been about the working man. Butte is very blue collar and while billions of dollars' worth of ore has been taken from the ground and made many individuals and corporations very wealthy. But it was done through the sweat of the working men and women. And we salute them today.

This airplane is getting put back in circulation and two Montana airports will be a part of it.

With all we've seen and survived, Butte is becoming accustomed to seeing itself on the big or small screen. But even so, when the production crews start rolling, it is still truly a sight to behold. And we caught something happening today on South Harrison Avenue at the old Royal Motel location on Elizabeth Warren. (It was the Royal, wasn't it?)
