The 15th Mariah's Challenge Scholarship Ceremony Is Tonight

Tonight is a special night for Butte.

Tonight, twenty of Mariah’s Messengers will receive a $1,000 scholarship for secondary education, after accepting, and living, Mariah’s Challenge. The ceremony will be held in the Montana Tech Library Auditorium, starting at 6pm tonight.

The Mariah’s Challenge Scholarship Program is a private non-profit program operated through the Mariah Daye McCarthy Scholarship Foundation. The program provides scholarships to Butte-Silver Bow high school seniors who epitomize the ideals of the Foundation.

Mariah’s Challenge is dedicated to the prevention of underage drinking and promoting healthy adolescent lifestyles. The scholarships are based on the student’s adherence to the challenge as well as their character and community commitments. The program is not based on grades, financial need, or leadership/achievements.

The Mariah’s Challenge pledge is simple:

If you are under 21, do not drink, and do not get in a car with somebody who has been drinking.

If you are over 21, do not drink and drive, and be a good role model for our children.

Counting tonight, 445 scholarships have been awarded to 445 unique individuals over the course of 15 years.

Mariahs Challenge sholarship process

I personally believe that Mariah’s Challenge is one of the greatest things to happen to Butte. It empowers teens to say no to alcohol and teaches them the importance of not drinking and driving when they are of legal age. That knowledge could save a life one day, and that is worth everything.
