Gurnsey, Bulldogs dunk Missoula Big Sky
Cameron Gurnsey's steal and breakaway dunk with 2:00 to play was part of a 9-0 Butte High 4th quarter run that was too much for Missoula Big Sky to weather as the Bulldogs beat the Eagles 87-78 Tuesday night at Ross J. Richardson Gymnasium on the campus of Butte High School.
Gurnsey, a senior forward, had 17 points to join freshman guard Hudson Luedtke and senior forward Jace Stenson in double figures for the Bulldogs. 10 of Gurnsey's points came in the fourth quarter. Stenson and Luedtke shared scoring honors with 24 points apiece.
The Bulldogs would fall behind 8-2 four minutes into the game but a Luedtke layup, a Gurnsey trey and a Jonas Sherman layup off a nice feed from Luedtke would put the Bulldogs up 9-8 and they would lead by as many as 9 points with a little over 2 minutes remaining in the period.
But each time the Bulldogs would seemingly get the Eagles in a corner, Carson Towe would shoot them out of it. Big Sky's 6'2 sophomore guard had 7 three pointers for the Eagles and would finish the game with an impressive 23 points. Towe was joined in double figures by teammates Isaiah Reed who had 10, Lucas Thorne with 12 and Josiah Cuaresma who had 16. Butte High got 8 points apiece from big man Jonas Sherman and sharp-shooting Tocher Lee. Sophomore Dylan "Bobby" Bache would get 3 points off an "and 1" situation in the first and freshman Cayde Stajcar made the most of his minutes with 3 points and a couple of big rebounds.
The Bulldogs will be on the road this Friday to face the Missoula Hellgate Knights.
