Basketball is in the air! From college and professional play to high school match-ups and your kiddo's grade school games, basketball fans can't get enough! Locally, here's even more icing on the cake for enthusiasts! A chance to check out the Wayne Estes Basketball Tournament in Anaconda this Saturday & Sunday, March 25th & 26th! The tournament first made its way to the court in 1984 to pay tribute and honor the late great basketball legend Wayne Estes, a native of Anaconda.
The Southwest A announced it's all-conference and all-state selections for the 2022-23 basketball season and the Butte Central Maroons are aptly represented.

The Copperhead (Boys) and Lady Copperhead basketball teams head to the Western Divisional Class B Tourney after placing second at last weekend's District 6B competition. Interestingly enough, they won't have to travel far to play as the tournament will be held in Anaconda beginning this Thursday, February 23rd! Last Thursday, the Lady Heads beat the Deer Lodge Wardens at home 66 to 24 to guarantee them a shot at Western Divisionals. The same scenario applied to the Copperheads (Boys) as they went into overtime this past Saturday in Florence to beat the Falcons 66 to 62. Although Loyola won both the boys' and girls' championship matchups against Anaconda in the Snake Pit this past Saturday afternoon (February 18th), the Copperheads are eager for another attempt at victory leading into divisionals.

Class B District Basketball action is underway this evening as the number one ranked Anaconda Lady Copperheads take on the fourth ranked Deer Lodge Lady Wardens at 6 p.m. in the Snake Pit. Missoula will also host district play tonight as the number three ranked Florence Lady Falcons take on the number two ranked Loyola Breakers at 6 p.m. The Lady Copperheads are heading into the tournament with a win last Saturday against Loyola 62-52 in Zoo Town. Although, they fell short last Friday night 33-24 on their home court against Florence, the Anaconda girls are looking to set the tone and dominate tonight.
The Maroon Activities Center will be hopping throughout the rest of the week at the District 12C Boys and Girls Basketball tournament is in full swing. But before we look at this tournament let's look at Class C Basketball as a whole.
The Butte Central Boys Basketball team has wrapped up the regular season and are preparing for the upcoming Western A Divisional Tournament which will be played in Ronan.
Tomorrow night, February 10th, the Memorial Gym in Anaconda will come alive as they host the Florence Flacons in double header basketball action. The matchup will be memorable for many, especially since it's also Senior Night! Prospectively, the boys & girls JV teams will begin play in the late afternoon with Senior Night festivities expected to take place at 5 p.m. and prior to the varsity games. Those honored tomorrow during Senior Night are dedicated athletes and musicians preparing to graduate in the spring. Students who have participated in basketball, cheerleading, orchestra and band will be recognized with their parents in arm during the ceremony. With that being said, hats off to Gabe Galle who will be the lone upper letterman basketball player to grace the court for Senior Night. As for the Copperhead Wrestling team who just took home their first team divisional championship, they celebrated their Senior Night on January 24th!
