A list of foods that you should never give your pets on Thanksgiving.
Any dog or cat owner will tell you that one thing to be thankful for this Thanksgiving is their furry little friend. Or, in some cases, friends. And while we give thanks around the dinner table, you can bet that our faithful little companions will be somewhere nearby looking for the errant table scrap or, better yet, a piece of turkey under the table. While we want to include our pets in our family celebrations, the folks at the Chelsea Bailey Animal Shelter remind us that while our intentions are good, some of our Thanksgiving food may, in face, not be good for our pets. In some cases, what we eat can sometimes even kill them. Here are some of the things that you should never feed your dogs or cats this Thanksgiving.
CHOCOLATE - Never feed your dog or allow your dog to get into chocolate. Chocolate can cause gastrointestinal, neurologic or heart problems in your dog.
SUGAR FREE CANDIES, GUM OR BAKING GOODS CONTAINING XYLETOL - These can cause low blood-sugar and liver problems.
RAISINS AND GRAPES - A big one here. Raisins and grapes can cause kidney failure.
TURKEY AND HAM BONES - These can lead to foreign body obstructions.
MIXED ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES - We shouldn't have to say this. This obviously can cause alcohol poisoning in pets.
RAW BREAD DOUGH - Raw bread dough can cause electrolyte imbalances, tremors and even bloating.
ONIONS AND GARLIC - Another big one. Onions and garlic can cause anemia and secondary kidney injury.
