Butte High celebrating Homecoming and Silver B’s tonight
Tonight we get a treated to a dual celebration as Butte High welcomes Big Sky to town for Homecoming and Silver B Night tonight, at Naranche. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30p, as the Bulldogs will host the Missoula Big Sky Eagles for their 33rd meeting. Butte High holds the overall advantage with 20 wins and 12 losses to date. The Bulldogs have also won the past 4 meetings, including a 24-0 win a year ago at Missoula county stadium.
Big Sky comes in 1-3 overall, with an overtime win over Skyview, and a loss to Gallatin to start the season. In Western AA play they have losses to Glacier and Helena Capital.
Butte High rolls into Homecoming with a 2-2 record overall, and 1-1 in Western AA Play. In their non-conference games, the Dogs started the season with a 36-28 win over Senior and followed that with a loss to Great Falls High. In conference play, the Dogs fell to the Helena Bengals 41-35 and took down the Braves of Flathead 40-0 last week.
The Eagles of Missoula Big Sky are led in by Drew Martin at Quarterback, the Junior comes into Naranche with 460 passing yards, hitting on 53% of his passes (49 completions on 93 attempts). He is averaging 115 yards per game passing, with 3 TD’s and 7 Interceptions. His main target is Colter Ramos, a junior receiver that is having an outstanding start to the season with 23 catches for 301 yards, he has also hauled in 2 Touchdown passes so far this year.
The one constant it seems for Missoula Big Sky is you are going to see a Quarterback that can run the football, (if you need a refresher, go back and look up the Janacaro brothers) and Martin falls into that mold, Drew has 106 yards rushing on 37 attempts, with 2 rushing Touchdowns, also in the backfield will be Joey Sandberg, he is the Eagles leading rusher with 137 yards, on 51 carries.
For the Bulldogs, Jace Stenson will be calling the shots again at Quarterback, Jace has thrown for 1065 yards on 84 completions. He averages 266 yards a game, hitting 60% of his passes for 9 Touchdowns, along with 5 interceptions. He also comes in as the Bulldogs leading rusher with 236 yards on 52 carries, he has 2 rushing touchdowns so far this season as well.
The rushing game had a huge week last week as Trey Hansen broke the goal line 4 times! Trey has packed the rock 46 times for 131 yards and a team-leading 6 touchdowns.
And then we get to the receiver group, this unit is incredibly talented and an awful lot of fun to watch. They are led by senior receiver, and Griz commit, Cameron Gurnsey. Gurnsey has 22 receptions for 283 yards coming into this Homecoming matchup. Rueso Batterman is having a great start to the season with 234 yards on 17 catches, he also has 2 touchdown catches. That brings us to the Freshmen, Cayde Stajcar and Hudson Luedtke, it’s hard not to daydream about what the future holds for these guys. Cayde has 14 catches so far, good for 201 yards, and one score. Hudson comes in with 12 catches, good for 116 yards and 3 touchdown receptions.
Like most weekends in the Western AA, this is an important game for both teams, Butte High after tonight, has Capital, Glacier, Hellgate and Sentinel, an extremely tough road, so going In with a win would be great momentum.
Big Sky has Hellgate, Sentinel, Helena High, and Flathead left on the schedule. So again for both teams, any and all wins you can manage in this meatgrinder of a conference, are great wins. See you tonight.
