The Concern Over Student Apparel; Focus of Upcoming Event

The term "Dress for Success" is prominent in this piece, but this time around, in a very non-materilistic way. Undoubtedly, this is a feel good story about some amazing people helping out children and in the most meaningful and common sense way. Coming up August 24th & 25th, United Way of Butte and Anaconda will host "Dress a Child".

It's ALL in the name and the effort is immense to help guarantee that 120 area students, will have the opportunity to start the school year dressed in new clothing. To some, it might not sound like a big deal, but there are many circumstances where children are in need of clothing but without the means. There's also the unacceptable behavior by peers who may ridicule students about their dress attire. This isn't right by any means, but the scenario truly exists and it actually has been a problem in the United States for decades.

The "Dress a Child" program is first and foremost, positive reinforcement for local students. An important effort to help children feel good about themselves all while shopping for  clothes that suits their style.

United Way of Butte and Anaconda are still looking for volunteers to help students, kindergarten through twelfth grade, shop for $100 dollars worth of merchandise in the Walmart clothing section in Butte. Some local students still may be able to apply for the program through Action Inc., 4C's, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Youth Dynamics, The Salvation Army and United Way of Butte and Anaconda.

Programs similar to this one to include "Stuff The Bus" presented by Jim Miller earlier this month at Town Pump, are key examples of what's great about our surroundings. No doubt there are many amazing things about the community and the incredible "Dress A Child" program has been added to the list. To each area student; "believe in yourself and remember you can conquer anything when given the tools and positive reinforcement."
