The decision on what to do after high school is a big one for practically every graduating senior this year.  But when you have a state's entire congressional delegation in your corner, the decision can be, at least, a little bit easier.

In an interview with KAAR-FM's Tom O'Neill this morning, United States Senator Steve Daines talked about his decision to nominate Butte's Jonas Sherman, along with 18 other Montana high school seniors, to our nation's Service Academies.  A congressional nomination is a critical step in the process for Montanans seeking admission to one of the nation’s four military academies: the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs (USAF), the U.S. Military Academy at West Point (USMA), the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis (USNA) or the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point (USMMA).  Sherman is seeking admission to the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Air Force Academy.  Daines joins fellow Republican Congressman Matt Rosendale and Democratic Senator Jon Tester as Sherman's backers.  And with good reason.  Sherman sports a 4.0 GPA and is an active athlete and community member.

"The best phone call I get to make as a U.S. Senator is when I call these young, outstanding Montana leaders who have gone through a very rigorous process of interviews and applications," Daines told O'Neill. "I actually have a board of men and women who are retired military and they screen these young Montanans who have interest in serving our country by going to one of our Academies," he said, adding "This is something that they have earned."
