Halloween is making a splash at the Butte Family YMCA this fall with a fun seasonal event that combines swimming, games and plenty of pumpkin-themed fun.

The YMCA will host its Pumpkin Swim on Friday, October 23, offering local families a chance to celebrate the season in the pool with a spooky twist.  The event will take place at the Butte Family YMCA at 2975 Washoe St., with two swimming sessions available.  The first wave is scheduled from 6pm to 6:45pm followed by a second session from 7pm to 7:45pm.  The cost is $10 per swimmer and space is limited to 50 participants per wave.

Organizers are billing the event as "a spooky splash of autumn magic: and the evening will include more than just swimming.  Participants an expect games, prizes, treats, music and pumpkin decorating.  A pumpkin float will also be part of the festivities with the YMCA promising that the pumpkins will "never sink."

The event is designed to be family-friendly and all ages are welcome.  Non-swimmers are also welcome to attend.  Children under the age of 5, however, must have an adult in the water with them.  Lifeguards will be on duty during the event and swim tests may be required for those who want to use the deep end.

With Halloween approaching, the Pumpkin Swim offers families a chance to enjoy a fun seasonal activity without having to wait for trick-or-treating.  The combination of swimming, music and games along with decorations will give the evening a distinctly autumn feeling while keeping the focus on family recreation.

Because each session is limited to 50 participants, the YMCA is encouraging families to reserve their spots ahead of time.  Registration is available through butteymca.org or families can call the Butte Family YMCA at (406) 782-1266 for more information.
