Mining City Astronomers list meetings and welcome new members
Do you find yourself looking up at the night sky's constellations? Do you ever ponder the vastness of space and wonder what's out there? Are you a connoisseur of constellations? Well, you're not alone. Not by any means. In fact, if you consider yourself a stargazer, a space enthusiast or just a curious onlooker, you are invited to join a like-minded group here in Butte who call themselves the Mining City Astronomers.
Now, you don't have to be Carl Sagan to be a member. Mining City Astronomers are armchair astronomers. They offer presentations on armchair astronomy and other space-related topics, and they focus on a different star constellation each month where they will help you learn the constellation's history as well as how to find it in the night sky. Mining City Astronomers also offer assistance and information with telescopes and other technical equipment but also do a lot of fun things like Star Parties and potlucks. They meet on the third Thursday of every month with their next meeting coming up on February 15 at the Butte Public Library where the armchair astronomy topic will be "Observing the Moon" and they will look at the constellation Orion. Meetings will last from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. Future meetings, also at the library, are scheduled for March 21st where they will observe the inner planets of our Solar System and focus on the constellation Taurus, and April 18th where they will observe the outer planets and focus on the constellation Gemini.
