Solar farms usually come to mind, but in Montana, the renewable energy source that's more common is wind farms.

What's the downside? Many folks don't like looking across Montana's beautiful scenery and seeing gigantic windmills.

That's a valid criticism, but the benefits are incredible.

Wind Farms in Montana

Most of Montana's wind farms are found in rural areas. These wind farms are set up in areas with high winds and can capitalize on creating clean electricity for surrounding communities.

There are now two more wind farms on the way to Montana.

News From The States reports Puget Sound Energy, a Washington-based company, will build two new wind farms in Wheatland and Meagher counties in Montana.

These wind farms will create enough energy to power 83,000 homes. One of the farms will only be an hour outside of Billings and can lower electric bills.

These wind farms will also create many jobs for construction.

This project could be a sign of what's to come in Montana. Wind farms could solve several of the power problems in Big Sky Country.
