Certain fashion trends seem to be more popular in Montana than in other states. When winter arrives, and temperatures start dropping, there's one article of clothing you see a lot of.

Sometimes during the colder months, you have to get creative to stay warm, and in Montana, dressing in layers is common. Last winter, when I was walking around in downtown Bozeman, I noticed a lot of people wearing practically the same thing. I'm not going to lie, found it amusing.

People Love Wearing These to Stay Warm in Montana

You know it's winter in Montana when folks start breaking out the puffy jackets. Whether it's The North Face, Patagonia, or another high-end outdoor clothing brand, people seem to love puffy jackets in Big Sky Country. Black seems to be the most popular color.

I'm not judging, because I'm sure the jackets are nice and warm, I just think it's funny that so many people wear the same thing during the winter. Maybe I missed the memo. Do you have to own a black puffy jacket if you live in Montana?

Even the cowboys and cattle ranchers rock the puffy jackets. Well, some of them still wear the iconic tan Carhart jackets.

There's another thing I've observed in Bozeman. There will be a foot of snow on the ground, and you'll still see people walking around in Birkenstocks with socks. That's another thing that cracks me up. I watched a person slip and slide across the Safeway parking lot last week when it was snowing, and it was a real headscratcher.
