A staple in any mall is Spencer's. The novelty store is a place to find all kinds of merchandise, with much of it being irreverent. Because of that, it's why Spencer's has been a fan favorite for decades.

However, rumors are circulating that Spencer's is looking at closing all of their stores.

I am happy to tell you that according to sources, that rumor is false. While Spencer's will be shutting down some under performing locations, there aren't plans to shut down all of the 600 and some odd stores across the country and Canada. As the "traditional" mall struggles to survive, so do several long term residents of the malls.

Here in Montana we have Spencer's in Billings, Bozeman, and Missoula. The stores have everything from gag gifts, to ugly sweaters, music t-shirts, and more adult based items that would require someone being at least 18 years old to purchase.

Are Montana's Spencer's Stores in danger of closing?

According to Google, the locations that are closing are located in the states of Maryland, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. So, for now, the Montana locations are safe.

However, it does bring up a bigger issue, as mentioned above, many malls are falling on hard times and as foot traffic lessens, how do stores stay open? It's an issue that property owners and retailers have been dealing with for years now.

I'm a kid of the 80s, so I'm pro-mall. I still enjoy doing the whole mall thing, however, the question does remain, how long can some of these malls last?
