The Driving Dilemma in Bozeman

One of the biggest complaints I hear about living in Bozeman is how bad the drivers are.

In fact, I believe there is an actual Facebook page that is dedicated to outing those who aren't skilled in the art of maneuvering a vehicle. They will post pictures, tell stories, post license plates, etc. It seems a little much, but maybe that's just me.

What Locals Are Saying About Drivers

If you ask locals what's up with the bad drivers, they'll tell you it's all the "transplants" and if you ask which city has the worst drivers, they will more than likely tell you Bozeman.

Setting the Record Straight: Research Findings

So, I decided to do a little research to find out which Montana city has the worst drivers in the state.

I wanted to be fair, and even though I live in Bozeman, if Bozeman was the answer, I was going to call out the town.

Is Bozeman Really That Bad?

Oh, for those that are curious, Bozeman wasn't the answer. However, the internet did have something interesting to say about the town of Bozeman and it's drivers:

Often cited by residents on local forums for sudden congestion, rapid growth, and a high concentration of driver frustration due to mixing local and out-of-state driving habits

Ok, according to Google Data, the worst city for driving in Montana isn't Bozeman, so which town is it? Billings? Helena? Great Falls? Butte? Missoula? One of those has to be it, right?

Actually, no.

Montana's Driving Landscape: The Real Story

According to the data there isn't one town or city that has the worst drivers, but I did find this interesting little tidbit:

Statewide studies consistently rank Montana as a whole among the worst states for drivers, but no official statewide study breaks down rankings by individual cities.

It seems it isn't just a town or city, it's the whole state. So, there goes that whole transplant thing, although, I have come across many drivers with out of state plates that have made me swear while driving.
