Could This Montana Study Extend Your Dog’s Life?
We all love our furry friends and wish they could live forever. That's the hardest part about having a pet—they just don't get as many years as we do. I like to think it's because they're born more perfect than we are.
They come into this world knowing how to love unconditionally, and maybe that means they've already figured out what they need to in a shorter time.
That's how I explain it to myself, anyway—but it doesn't make it any easier when we lose them.
Now imagine this: if there was a magic pill that could help your dog live longer, would you give it to them? Of course you would!
Well, that pill doesn't quite exist yet, but a local veterinary clinic in Hamilton, Montana, is on the path to research development of extending your dog's life.
On Point Veterinary Services has launched an FDA-approved clinical trial aimed at increasing the lifespan of dogs, and you might be able to get involved if your dog meets the requirements.
"It could really change the lives of these dogs and their parents and keep everybody with us longer, which is what we all want in the end." - Dr. Meg Puchlerz, owner of On Point.
Here's what they're looking for:
- Dogs 10 years or older
- Weighs over 14 pounds
- Have proof of birthdate
- No pre-existing cancers or diabetes
- Must be available for regular visits during the study
The study will follow the participating dogs for at least four years.
