A community-focused event aimed at raising awareness and support for mental health is coming to Montana Tech later this month and it's an event designed with the whole family in mind.

The annual Out of the Darkness walk will take place on Saturday, April 18th on Montana Tech's main campus on Park Street.  The event supports the work of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and aims to bring hope while shining a light on suicide prevention.

Check-in begins at 10am with the walk officially starting at 11am.  Participation is free but community members are encouraged to register in advance.

Beyond the walk itself, the day will feature a variety of activities designed to bring people together.  Attendees can enjoy food trucks, face painting for the kids, and a visit from the 406 Colour Studio mobile truck.  There will also be raffle baskets for which organizers recommend you bring cash for tickets and many meaningful memory activities that allow participants to honor loved ones and reflect on the importance of mental health awareness.

Organizers say the event is open to everyone, whether you plan to walk, support a participant, or simply come out to enjoy the atmosphere and connect with others.

There is also an added incentive to get involved: participants who raise $100 by event day will receive and official walk t-shirt.

Community members are encouraged to spread the word and invite friends and family.  Every step taken and every dollar raised will help support suicide prevention efforts and resources for those in need.

Registration is available here.
