Miners Union Day celebration Saturday at World Museum of Mining
Miner's Union Day has always been a big deal in Butte and for obvious reasons. Butte is a blue collar town which was built on the labor of hardworking miners. Unionized labor for many intents was formed right here in Butte due to unfair conditions imposed by a powerful company and many of the rights workers enjoy today are because of unions. While Butte still has a strong union presence and things have calmed down since the destruction of the Miners Union Hall over 100 years ago, things are still going to be a little bit crazy on Saturday for the Miners Union Day celebration at Butte's World Museum of Mining.
This year's celebration will be special as it is the World Museum of Mining's 60th Anniversary year and a bunch of activity in commemoration. Admission to the museum is free and you can literally spend an entire day walking through and gazing in wonder at the Hell Roarin' Gulch ghost town.
There is also the one-of-a-kind underground mine tour where guests go into the actual 100-level of the Orphan Girl mine shaft. It's intense, but well worth it. (NOTE: NO OPEN TOED SHOES ALLOWED ON THE UNDERGROUND TOUR.) Kids activities abound again this year with garnet panning and mine helmet decorating available free of charge. Miner's Union Day at the World Museum of Mining truly is a great experience that the whole family can enjoy. For further information just shoot an email to buttewmm@gmail.com.
