Maroons to hoist Championship Banner tonight as Anaconda comes to the MAC
The Butte Central Maroons will hoist their seventh Boys Basketball championship banner tonight at the Maroon Activities Center and if you want a seat, you'd better get there early.
Tonight, the Maroons will raise the banner between the boys and girls games as the Anaconda Copperheads come to town. This means that a crowd that is already expected to be huge will be even bigger. The girls are scheduled for a 6pm start while the boys are expected to start around 7:30. You can bet that Anaconda would like nothing more than to spoil the Maroons' championship celebration, but they're going to have their hands full as a good chunk of the players on the MAC floor tonight were on the Adams Event Center floor last March when the Maroons beat Lewistown 61-58 for the Class A title. Including Dougie Peoples. This great video from MTN Sports shows what he is capable of.
Also back for Butte Central is forward Kyle Holter who can not only score but is among the state's leaders in steals. Eric Loos returns at post and his 6'4 presence alters shots and collects rebounds. And since this is team is still under the direction of Coach Brodie Kelly you can be sure that all of the above takes a back seat to the ferocious style of man-to-man defense that has won 2 championships and brought the Maroons to 4 State Championship games under his tenure. Under Kelly, the Maroons also shared the 2020 championship with Hardin while taking second place to Columbia Falls in 2005 and Browning in 2008.
