Orediggers Diekhans again Frontier Conference Player of the Week
What a season for Montana Tech's Hayden Diekhans. And we're only halfway through conference play. The Geraldine product has been named "Defensive Player of the Week" for the third time this year. The following is a release from the Montana Tech Sports Information Department:
HELENA, Mont. -- For the third time this season, Montana Tech's Hayden Diekhans is a Frontier Conference men's basketball player of the week. The junior from Geraldine landed the league's defensive player of the week honor, the Frontier office announced Monday afternoon.
Diekhans helped the 11th-ranked Orediggers to a pair of Frontier wins last week, averaging 10 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and a blocked shot over the two games. He tallied six points, five boards, two blocks, and a steal in Thursday's 76-53 win over MSU-Northern and followed that with a 14-point, eight-rebound, five-assist, two-steal performance Saturday as Tech defeated No. 19 Rocky Mountain, 76-59.
Montana Tech has played some of the best defense in the NAIA in 2024-25, leading the country in opponents' field-goal percentage (38.0) and ranking second nationally in points allowed per game (60.5).
The Frontier weekly honor is Diekhans' third this season. He'd won one prior on each end of the floor.
Providence's Antoine Boyd, Jr. was the offensive honoree this week.
Montana Tech (18-2, 6-1 Frontier) will hit the road Thursday to continue conference play at Carroll College with a 7 p.m. tip. The Orediggers will return home to play Montana Western Saturday at 4 p.m. Tech defeated both teams in the first cycle through league play.
