Butte-Silver Bow has announced that sprinkling restrictions for area residents will go into effect next week, beginning on Monday, July 7th.  These restrictions help reduce daily demand and better enable the Butte-Silver Bow Water Division to supply water for the summer months ahead.

WHAT THE RESTRICTIONS MEAN TO YOU

The restrictions will allow for houses with even numbered addresses to irrigate lawns on even numbered days. Likewise, odd numbered houses will be allowed to irrigate their lawns on odd numbered days. There will be no watering on the 31st day of any month.
Sprinkling is also restricted from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., this is the hottest part of the day, and much of the water evaporates before it can be absorbed by the lawn. Instead, the water division asks you to please plan to water during the cooler hours of the late evening and early morning. Allowed watering times are 8 p.m. to 10 a.m.

FAILURE TO ABIDE COULD BE COSTLY TO YOU AND YOUR LAWN

Failure to observe the restrictions could result in fines and fees up to $100 and the loss of sprinkling privileges.

BUTTE-SILVER BOW EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT EXPLAINS

Via Facebook, Butte-Silver Bow Emergency Management went into greater detail into why the restrictions are going into effect.  "It’s important to remember that Butte-Silver Bow relies on surface water — from reservoirs and the Big Hole River — not just for our personal needs, but also to support local ecosystems and firefighting. Even with more precipitation this year, our rivers and streams are at the same levels as last year. To ensure sustainability and build drought resiliency, we must work together on water conservation — and that includes following sprinkling restrictions. These measures help put everyone on the same playing field and protect our shared resources."
Let’s work together to protect our precious water supply.
For more details, please call the Butte-Silver Bow Water Utility Division, (406) 497-6530.
